Don’t believe them – It’s not true.

Jo's office

I’ve had so many epiphanies over the last few months. Today I’m going to share some of them.

In May 2017 I committed to an experiment that would take me from the comfort of my spacious home office, to living and working in a tiny home in Mexico for six months. On November 5th that became a reality when I arrived in Los Barriles, Mexico to begin my adventure.

Our #tinyhome is 186 square feet (17.28 square meters), and I have learned a great deal about the “how to’s” – how to work with intermittent internet when running a business that is heavily reliant on the internet. That was a big one. Also how to continue to serve our tribe and add value.

How to use Mexico as my home base as I flew to and from the US and Canada. I traveled to Miami for the Readers’ Favorite Awards. I’ve also travelled to Orlando and Alberta since arriving here. It’s different, but very doable.

It has been both incredible and challenging at times. We had to figure some stuff out along the way, but we did, and we were able to do what needed doing and deliver the best of what we are. At times I had to surrender the notion of getting online and go for a walk on the beach instead. It is, after all, only fifty feet from my door.

There were a few times I questioned my logic, and the practicality of doing this experiment. Like when I was challenged with internet challenges. For a person who does 90% of her work online, that can be the kiss of death! I found myself falling into false beliefs such as those that suggest that this was not possible. What a crock that was. I have access to all I need here in this rural Mexican town. But I did have to adjust my expectations. Which, by the way, is never a bad thing. Just because your logical brain says it’s so, doesn’t mean it is.

I will be flying back to Victoria on February 1st for one month to host our annual event in Vancouver at the Granville Island Hotel on Feb 23 and 24th. I am so excited to be able to gather with women who are committed and passionate about growing their business! Excited to provide those who join us access.

Of course, every journey has its lessons: the two most impactful:

  1. It is possible to live the laptop lifestyle – working from anywhere once you adapt. As an entrepreneur who works online, and whose product is delivered via live events that help women move from Best Kept Secret to Success, it is not relevant where I am working.
  2. I am walking my talk and proving it is possible to have moved from Best Kept Secret to Success while working and growing internationally. So much so that we have already decided to offer something incredible in Mexico in late 2018 and we have also expanded to Europe! Neither would have happened had I not tried this experiment.

If you have it in your scope to work from anywhere, and your business is designed to do so, I say GO FOR IT! Don’t wait – Just do it!

My mission continues to be to help more women entrepreneurs take their business to the international level. So, I invite you to join us and share with others.
